Jan. 10, 2015 NC State at Villanova Results
VILLANOVA, Pa. - The Villanova women's swimming team (4-4, 2-0 BIG EAST) fell to the NC State Wolfpack by a final of 173.5 to 87.5 from the Villanova Swim Complex on Saturday afternoon.
The Wildcats earned three second-place finishes and five third-place marks against the ACC opponent. Nova also had three first-place victories while NC State swam exhibition races towards the end of the event.
Junior Fiona Hardie (Hampshire, England/Bournemouth School), sophomore Jessica Randolph (Davie, Fla./American Heritage), senior Sara Jurek (Gilbert, Ariz./Chandler) and junior Kaisla Kollanus (Hyvinkaa, Finland/Makelanrinteen Iukio) finished second in the 200 freestyle relay, coming in at 1:37.71.
In the 200 medley relay, the quartet of freshman Gabby Daigneault (Montreal, Quebec/William H. Hall), freshman Heather Farley (Mendota Heights, Minn./Convent of the Visitation), Hardie and senior Katrin Heider (Bergisch Gladbach, Germany/Herkenrath) touched the wall at 1:48.31 for a third-place mark.
Sophomore Emily Mayo (Centennial, Colo./Arapahoe), winner of the last two BIG EAST Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week awards, earned a second-place finish in the 1000 freestyle when she came in a 10:23.06. Freshman Caitlin Daday (Allentown, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) followed closely behind at 10:27.94 for third in the race.
Heider tied for second in the 200 freestyle at 1:52.99. The time was less than three-tenths of a second from the victor at 1:52.63.
In the 200 backstroke, Daigneault clocked a time of 2:06.10 for third.
Freshman Mackenzie Niness (Sutton, Mass./Norte Dame Academy) touched the wall at 2:09.31 for the 200 butterfly, finishing third.
Kollanus also earned third in the 100 freestyle with a time of 52.90.
The 500 freestyle, 100 butterfly and 200 IM were raced after NC State had already secured the victory. Mayo swam a 4:57.68 in the free for first while Hardie came in at 58.43 for the fly victory. Jurek swam the 200 IM in 2:10.12 for first place.
