Montross Named Assistant Coach

Feb. 13, 2015

VILLANOVA, Pa. - Mike Montross has joined the Villanova Wildcats men's soccer staff as an assistant coach, it was announced today. Montross comes to Villanova after serving two seasons as an assistant coach at Lehigh University. Prior to his stint at Lehigh, Montross served as a volunteer assistant coach at Georgetown University.

"We are very excited to announce the hire of Coach Montross," stated Villanova head coach Tom Carlin. "Mike is one of the best young recruiters in the country. His knowledge of the recruiting landscape is a huge strength for him. The fact that he comes to us from Lehigh and Georgetown, which are two very similar recruiting situations, means he can hit the ground running for our program.

"Mike has worked our Villanova summer camps for the past couple of years, so our players know him and are just as excited about the hire as we are."

Montross is a 2011 graduate of Dickinson College, where he earned four varsity letters and served as a team captain as a senior. He helped lead his team to its first two conference and NCAA Tournament appearances in 2007 and 2008.

After receiving his degree in International Business and Management, the native of Bethesda, Maryland later joined the Georgetown staff, where he was part of the staff that led the Hoyas to the 2012 NCAA College Cup Final. He then accepted a position at Lehigh, where he helped the Mountain Hawks make the second highest RPI jump of any Division I program (from No. 187 to No. 78) and record 10 victories for the first time since 2006.

Montross fills the void created by the departure of former associate head coach Zach Thornton, who joined the D.C. United of Major League Soccer last month.
