Men's Lacrosse Hosts Delaware Saturday at Noon

VILLANOVA, Pa. - Villanova (2-1) returns home for the third consecutive Saturday when they host Delaware (2-2) on February 28th. Game time vs. the Blue Hens is slated for noon at Villanova Stadium.

Series History: Saturday marks the 15th meeting between the two schools with the all-time series favoring the Wildcats by an 8-6 margin. Delaware claimed last season's outing on March 1st, 2014 in an 11-9 victory in Newark, Del. The two sides first met in 2002 when they were both members of the Colonial Athletic Association for men's lacrosse. Villanova left the CAA when the BIG EAST began sponsoring the sport in 2010.

Villanova This Season: The Wildcats enter Saturday's contest with a 2-1 record after defeating Drexel 14-11 on Tuesday. The Wildcats opened the year with a 13-10 loss to Johns Hopkins to start the season and posted a win against Penn State last week. As of the latest USILA Coaches and Cascade/Maverik Media Polls released on Monday, February 23th, Villanova has scheduled five ranked opponents on their calendar this season: No. 1 Denver, No. 11 Maryland, No. 12 Johns Hopkins, No. 16 Penn and No. 17 Marquette

`Nova Offense: The Villanova freshman class has produced 47% of offensive production through three games, while freshman Danny Seibel (Wakefield, Mass.) leads the team with 10 points via 10 goals. Freshman face-off specialist Luke Palmadesso (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) and junior Brent Croonquist (North Caldwell, N.J.) have combined to post a .322 win percentage this season, taking 19-of-59 attempts. The Wildcats average 11.67 goals per game on offence and surrender 10.33 goals per game defensively.

'Nova Defense: Junior Greg Stamatov (Foxboro, Mass.) and sophomore Dan Willis (Moorestown, N.J.) have each played 90 minutes in net for the Wildcats and have combined for a .516 save percentage and 33 saves on the season.

The starting trio on close defense, sophomores Danny Sweeney (Glenelg, Md.), Nate Gorman (Swewll, N.J.) and junior John Moderski (Philadelphia, Pa.) have combined for 14 ground balls and three caused turnovers while junior LSM Jordan Cunningham (Atlanta, Ga.) has registered four ground balls and five caused turnovers.

A Look at Delaware: Delaware brings a 2-2 record into Saturday's showdown with the Wildcats. The Blue Hens are coming off an 11-10 win against Mount St. Mary's on Tuesday. Delaware opened the season with losses to High Point (L, 15-10) and Ohio State (L, 10-3) and posted wins against MSM and Bucknell (W, 12-11).

Blue Hen Offense: Drexel averages 9.00 goals per game on offense and surrenders 11.50 goals per game defensively. Brian Kormondy (5g, 7a) leads the team with 12 points while Tom Holland and Beau Jones follow closely behind with a combined 13 goals and four assists. 14 different players have posted points for Delaware through four games this season.

Blue Hen Defense: Brett Anton has played the majority of minutes in net this season and has a 9.45 GAA and a .519 save percentage, while Conor Peaks has also seen time in net. Combined, the duo has made 42 saves on the year.

The Last Meeting (3/1/14): A fourth quarter rally fell just short as Villanova was defeated by Delaware 11-9 on Saturday, March 1st in Newark, Del. Today's game marked the first win for Delaware over Villanova since the 2012 season; Villanova had previously won four out of the past five meetings with the Blue Hens dating back to 2009.
