Feb. 27, 2015 VILLANOVA, Pa. - The Wildcats began their three-day weekend at the Cal Lutheran Invitational in Thousand Oaks, Calif. by playing both CSU Bakersfield and Azusa Pacific. It was the first two of six games the Wildcats will play this weekend. In the first game of the day Villanova lost to CSU Bakersfield 11-5 and beat Azusa Pacific 14-12.
Game 1: CSU Bakersfield 11, Villanova 5
The first game of the day for the Wildcats started off as a close game. The score was 3-2 Bakersfield at the end of the first quarter and was only 4-3 at half. Bakersfield was able to put up a big second half with seven late goals, five in the fourth, to take the victory.
Naomi Ng was once again the Wildcats leading scorer with two goals. Other `Cats who found the net were Sarina Shibata, Dominique Clark and Sadie Dutcher. Julie Conrath totaled ten saves in the loss.
Game 2: Villanova 14, Azusa Pacific 12
In the second game in the Cal Lutheran Invitational the Wildcats faced off against Azusa Pacific and grabbed their fifth victory in the last six games with a 14-12 win.
Sheila Gerrity and Callan Edwards were both tied for Villanova lead with three goals apiece. Continuing her success from earlier Naomi Ng added two goals along with Sarina Shabata. Wildcats with singular goals on the day were Lizzie Louwers, Dominique Clark, Sadie Dutcher and Lizzie Newman.
Julie Conrath gathered 13 saves on her way to the victory.
The Wildcats will continue their exploits in the Cal Lutheran Invitational tomorrow at 9 a.m. against Fresno Pacific and vs. La Verne at 2 p.m.
