April 28, 2015 NEW YORK, N.Y. - The BIG EAST Conference announced its men's lacrosse major award winners and all-conference teams on Tuesday, April 28th prior to the start of the BIG EAST Championship.
Villanova graduate student Remington Pope, junior Jack Curran and freshman Sean Cerrone have each been named as Second Team All-BIG EAST honorees upon the conclusion of the 2015 regular season. It marks the first conference postseason honors for Pope and Cerrone while Curran earns his second straight appointment to the second team to match his 2014 laurels.
Remington Pope, GS., DS (Boston, Mass./The Governor's Academy) has been selected for the first postseason honor of his career with today's announcement. The defensive specialist and team captain appeared in all 13 contests this season and is tied for fourth on the team with 41 ground balls. A versatile defender, Pope has played both short and long-stick defense for the Wildcats throughout his career and returned for his fifth year in 2015 after redshirting his freshman season due to injury. For the season, Pope has tallied one goal, collected 21 ground balls and caused seven turnovers.
Jack Curran, Jr., M (Fair Haven, N.J./Rumson-Fair Haven) earns the second postseason accolade of his career after being named to the 2015 All-BIG EAST Second Team. The junior midfielder and team captain also earned the honor as a sophomore in 2014. For the year, Curran is second on the team in points (33), goals (20), assists (13) and man-up goals (4) and is just one of three players who have started and appeared in all 13 games for the Wildcats this season. For his career, Curran has tallied 42 goals and 30 assists for 72 points.
Sean Cerrone, Fr., M (Huntington, N.Y./Chaminade) has had an outstanding season to cap his first year on the Main Line. The midfielder leads the team in points (34) and assists (22) and is fifth with 12 goals on the year. He was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on March 9th and was named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week for the week of April 20th following a career-high day vs. St. John's to help solidify the Wildcats position in the postseason tournament. Cerrone finished the regular season with 12 goals, 22 assists, 34 points, two man-up goals, eight ground balls and five caused turnovers.
Denver's Wesley Berg was selected as the BIG EAST Attack Player of the Year while the Pioneers Christian Burgdorf and Trevor Baptiste were named the Defensive and Midfielders of the Year, respectively. Providence senior Peter Badgley was chosen as the Goalkeeper of the Year while Kevin Warne of Georgetown was picked as Coach of the Year. Voting was conducted among the league's six head coaches who were not permitted to vote for their own players.
The All-BIG EAST First Team is made up of seven players from Denver, three players from Marquette, two each from Georgetown and Providence and one from St. John's. Berg, Cannizzarro, Miller, Adamson, Burgdorf, Byrnes and Baptiste were all unanimous selections.
