Recap | Box Score | Quotes | Photo Gallery

  • Villanova improved to 600-466-41 (.561) all-time with the victory. This is the 117th season of football for the Wildcats, who first debuted in 1894. Villanova is the 17th FCS program to reach the 600-win plateau.
  • The victory marked the ninth time in the last 10 years that the Wildcats have defeated Delaware, including the eighth time in nine years since the annual matchup has been billed as the Battle of the Blue. Villanova has won four straight meetings and now leads the all-time series 27-21-1 (.561).
  • The previous two Wildcats home games in the series had been played at PPL Park in Chester in 2011 and 2013, making this game the Blue Hens first visit to Villanova Stadium since 2009. The attendance of 11,779 on Parents' Weekend at Villanova was the largest since the 2011 home opener against Monmouth (11,817). The Wildcats have won 11 of their last 13 home games at Villanova Stadium since the start of the 2013 campaign.
  • Villanova has had the lead at halftime in all three of their games this season. Last year, the Wildcats were 7-1 when leading at halftime.
  • Villanova is 62-31 (.667) since the beginning of the 2008 season.
  • Since the start of the 2011 season, the Wildcats are only 6-19 (.240) when scoring fewer than 30 points in a game. Despite that statistic, Villanova has won three of the last four games in which it did not score 30 points. The recent 3-1 record in such games includes a playoff victory over Liberty (29-22) at the end of the 2014 season, in addition to all three games so far on the 2015 schedule.
  • Senior quarterback John Robertson and redshirt freshman quarterback Zack Bednarczyk each tallied both a passing touchdown and a rushing touchdown in the game. The last time two different Wildcats each had both a passing and a rushing touchdown in a game was on December 11, 2010 in a playoff victory over Appalachian State. In that game, quarterback Chris Whitney had both a passing and a rushing touchdown. Meanwhile, wide receiver Matt Szczur rushed for three scores and threw a touchdown pass in the Wildcat formation.
  • Villanova opened the game's scoring with a six-yard touchdown run by senior quarterback John Robertson just 3:01 into the contest. This is the fastest into a game that the Wildcats have scored points since the Morgan State game last season (October 25, 2014). In that game, Villanova scored a touchdown just 1:19 into the contest. The early score in that game came on a 56-yard touchdown run by Robertson.
  • Senior quarterback John Robertson has thrown at least one touchdown pass in 17 consecutive games. The last game in which Robertson did not have a passing touchdown was against Rhode Island on November 9, 2013.
  • Senior wide receiver Kevin Gulyas caught a 70-yard pass from John Robertson in the first quarter. This is the second time that Robertson and Gulyas have connected for a pass play of at least 70 yards. In the FCS playoffs against Liberty last season (December 6, 2014), Robertson threw a school-record 87-yard pass to Gulyas. Neither of those plays resulted in a touchdown, however. The longest touchdown reception of Gulyas' career is 66 yards against Penn last season (September 27, 2014).
  • Senior wide receiver Kevin Gulyas had a career-high eight catches for 152 yards in the game. Gulyas tallied the fourth 100-yard receiving game of his career and the first this season. It is also the second time that Gulyas has surpassed 150 yards in a contest. He had a career-high 157 yards in the playoff win over Liberty last season. Prior to today's contest, the last time a Villanova receiver made eight catches in a game was last season when Poppy Livers had eight receptions against Fordham (September 6, 2014).
  • Seven different players had six or more total tackles in the game for the Wildcats, including sophomore cornerback Malik Reaves with a career-high 12 stops and senior linebacker Don Cherry with 10 tackles. Villanova finished with 82 total tackles as a team, its highest total since making 91 total stops at Stony Brook in the 2012 playoffs (December 2, 2012).
