• Villanova saw a five-game winning streak come to an end and was shut out for the first time in more than 12 years. The last time the Wildcats were shut out came in a 17-0 loss to James Madison in a torrential rainstorm on September 18, 2004 at Villanova Stadium. There were a combined 13 fumbles and only 213 yards of total offense between the two teams on that day. Since then, Villanova had gone 148 straight games without being shutout.
• The loss to Richmond snapped the Wildcats five-game winning streak. Villanova had outscored the opposition by an average of 22.2 points per game during the streak.
• Senior linebacker Austin Calitro and junior safety Rob Rolle each reached double figures in tackles for the game. Calitro tied a career high with 12 total stops and had a sack for the second straight game. He finished the day with a season-high three tackles for loss. Rolle had a career-high 11 total stops and reached double figures for the first time.
• Villanova forced one turnover in the game when it recovered a fumble in the second quarter. Junior defensive tackle Ricky Young (Telford, Pa.) forced the fumble and junior cornerback Trey Johnson (Lutz, Fla.) recovered the ball. The forced fumble and the recovery were the first of Young's and Johnson's careers.
• Senior punter John Hinchen registered a career-long 71-yard punt in the third quarter. He continued an excellent 2016 season by averaging 48.3 yards on six attempts. Hinchen had three punts of 50 yards or longer versus Richmond, and his 71-yard punt pinned the Spiders at their own 10-yard line. Through the first seven games of the season, Hinchen has attempted 35 punts and has tallied 12 punts of at least 50 yards and 12 that have been downed inside the 20-yard line.
