The Villanova Field Hockey Team (3-11 overall, 0-4 BIG EAST) continued play in Connecticut on Sunday afternoon in Fairfield, Connecticut. The Fairfield Stags (3-10, 1-0 MAC) edged the Wildcats, 4-1.
At the end of the first half, both teams were scoreless. Shots were limited from both teams with the Stags at eight and the Wildcats at three. Erika Miller picked up five saves out of the Stags eight shots they took in the first half.
In the start of the second half, the Wildcats were hungry for a goal. With six minutes into the second half, Francesca Bello took a shot from the far post that deflected in. Bello picked up her eighth goal of the season, which put the Wildcats on the board first. Bello's shot was assisted by Courtney Devine.
About ten minutes later, Fairfield tied the score off a rebound off of Erika Miller's save. Three minutes later, Fairfield scored again off a high shot. To end the game, Fairfield scored in the 63rd minute of play off a shot from the top of circle and then in the 66th minute, off a pass.
At the end of the second half, both team had 12 shots. Villanova finished with 15 shots, 8 of which were on goal, and 12 penalty corners. Erika Miller allowed four goals, while saving ten shots. Kristen Mericle fired a team high of five shots on goal.
Villanova will return home to host the Temple Owls in a conference game on Saturday October 15th, which is also "Welcome Back Alumni Day."
