Facing Off
The Villanova Women's Lacrosse team (0-3) will hit the road for the second time this season to Lewisburg, Pa. to take on the Bucknell Bison Saturday February 27th at 1:00 PM.
Series History
This game will mark the 16th time in program history that these two teams will meet; Villanova holds the all-time series record 10-5.
Last Meeting
Last season these two teams met at Villanova Stadium on Saturday February 28th and it was the Wildcats that came out victorious by a final of 11-9. The game was all Villanova, the Cats went on a 4-0 to start the game and never looked back taking a 6-2 lead into halftime. During the second half Bucknell tried to fight their way back bringing the game within one but Villanova went on their second 4-0 run of the game to keep the lead.
Villanova This Season
The Wildcats are coming off a tough 12-9 loss to Navy on Wednesday afternoon and are looking for their first win of the season. During the midweek game senior Meghan Breen finished with a hat trick, while Jackie Froccaro and Carolyn Dottino-Buenahora each added two goals apiece. On the defensive end, Tierney Griff tied her career high with three caused turnovers while Sam Scarfogliero had four ground balls. Jaclyn Fraum had four saves during her 51 minutes between the pipes; she was relieved by Julia Michaels who played the final nine minutes, recording one save.
A Look at Bucknell
Bucknell has won their first two games of the season and will return to action vs. the Wildcats after a week off. The Bison started the season at home vs. Delaware State where they won 25-1 to set a new single-game scoring record. Last Saturday Bucknell hit the road to take on Mount St. Mary, the Bison's offense continued to stay hot scoring 11 goals and limiting Mount to only 5.
Bucknell Offense
The Bison have four players with five or more goals this season. Leading the Bucknell offense is Gretchen Richter who has seven goals, next are Eve Lukowski, Emily Becker, and Maddy Molinari all three have five goals each.
Bucknell Defense
Leading the Bucknell defense is Annie Collett. Collett has the team highs in both ground balls with eight and caused turnovers with three through the first two goals. Another starter to the backfield is Lucia Smircich currently she has three ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Bucknell Goalkeeper
Bucknell will start freshman Jamie DeWitt in goal, so far this season she has played over 103 minutes for the Bison while accumulating 10 saves. She has a goal-against-average of 2.90 and a .667 save percentage heading into Saturday's matchup. The team's secondary goalkeeper is junior Elizabeth Duswalt, she saw action vs. Delaware State this season and finished with a 3.63 goal-against-average.
