Wildcats Dominate at St. John's to Win 18-13

The Villanova men's lacrosse has a strong offensive performance that lifts them over St. John's by a final of 18-13.

Jake Froccaro started things off with an early goal on a pass from Joey Froccaro to give Villanova a 1-0 lead. Over the next two minutes the Red Storm were able to score three goals, but Devin McNamara put a stop to the run thanks to a pass inside from John Kluh to bring the Cats within one. St. John's Jason DeBenedictis scored his second goal of the quarter at the two minute mark and Eric DeJohn got one off for the Red Storm with seconds remaining to give them a 5-2 lead at the end of one.

The second quarter was all Wildcats; McNamara found Jack Curran just under a minute in and seconds later Matt McIver found Jake Froccaro to bring the Cats within one. St. John's DeBenedictis scored his third goal of the game, this would be the last lead the Red Storm would have.

Villanova scored the next three goals in a minute and a half; McNamara started the run off, next Cuccinello scored on a pass from Jake Froccaro, and last was McIver would found the back of the net on a pass from Curran to give the Wildcats a 7-6 lead.

St. John's DeJohn scored only their second goal of the quarter at the eight minute mark after it was back to back goals by Johnny Gallaway that were assisted by Jake Froccaro to put Villanova up 9-7 heading into halftime.

The Wildcat offense kept rolling in the second half, Joey Froccaro found Cuccinello for a goal in the opening seconds after it was his brother Jake would score on a pass from Sean Cerrone. The rest of the quarter was a back and forth scoring battle, St John's DeJohn found the back of the net after it was McNamara who scored his third goal of the game with the assist from Jake Froccaro. DeBenedictis scored two more goals in the quarter for the Red Storm, for Villanova it was Cerrone who found the back of the net on a breakaway. St. John's was able to get a goal off in the last seconds of the third quarter; Villanova had a 13-11 lead at the end of three.

Cuccinello started the Villanova scoring off in the fourth quarter and minuets later it was Gallaway who got his third goal of the game, both of the goals were assisted by McNamara and gave Villanova a four goal lead.

After over eight minutes with no goal by both team Curran was able to get a goal for the Wildcats right after a timeout. The Red Storm scored a second later right off the faceoff but the Wildcats weren't done in the last minute. Cuccinello scored his fourth goal of the game on a pass from McNamara, he finished with seven points. Cerrone was able to break away down the field and scored the Wildcats last goal with just over 20 seconds left but the Red Storm did get a goal off after to make the final 18-13.

Nick Testa got the start in goal and played 30 minutes and finished with seven saves and a groundball, Dan Willis played the rest of the time between the posts and had nine saves.

John Moderski had a strong performance in the backfield for the Wildcats he finished with five groundballs and three caused turnovers. Joey Froccaro was 11-21 from the X and had a team high nine groundballs.

Villanova will close out the regular season at home next Saturday, April 30th vs. Providence, game time is slated for 1 P.M.
