Villanova Drops to Kent State in Season Opener 4-1

The Villanova field hockey team (0-1) lost to the Kent State Golden Eagles (2-0) Saturday afternoon in a non-conference match up in Kent, Ohio. The final score of the game was 4-1.

The Golden Eagles got on the board within six minutes of play, by a goal by Alison Harmatz, assisted by Krysti Lober.

The Wildcats continued to fight back when Courtney Devine reentered the game. Kristen Mericle set Devine up with a perfect pass in the front of goal. Devine's goal tied the game, with 13 minutes left into the half.

After the half, the Golden Eagles came back hungry scoring three goals in the second half. Two of the goals were from, Krysti Luber, and the other, from first half scorer, Alison Harmatz.

Sophomore, goalkeeper, Erika Miller made seven saves, while allowing four goals.

Villanova finished with six shots, four of which were on goal, and two corners.

The Wildcats return to action tomorrow, Sunday, August 27th to face the Michigan State Spartans at Noon.
