The Villanova Field Hockey team (0-2) suffered a 9-2 loss to the Michigan State Spartans (1-1) in Kent, Ohio, on Sunday afternoon.
Michigan State led 5-0 at halftime with five different Spartans each scoring a goal of their own.
Villanova tried to cut down the score when senior, Kristen Mericle had a direct shot into the goal to make the score, 5-1. Junior, Francesca Bello and Carolynn Clark assisted the goal on the corner play.
Within a minute later, Spartans' Kendall Anderson intercepted a shot straight on the net, to make the score 6-1. Teammate, Shelby Supica scored her second goal of the day minutes later to make the score, 7-1.
The Wildcats continued to fight when Kristen Mericle, assisted junior, Bello to a goal, to cut the score down to 7-2.
Two more Spartan goals were recorded to finish the game, final score being 9-2.
Sophomore, Erika Miller took the loss, making five saves, but allowing four goals. Junior, Jordyn Clipstone, made six saves, while allowing five goals. Fifth year senior, Taylor Kidwell, made a defensive safe of her own. The Wildcats finished the day with ten shots, seven of those, being on goal, and forcing three corners.
Villanova returns to action Friday, September 2nd to host the Longwood Lancers at Ursinus College, with a 12pm start time.
