The Villanova Field Hockey Team (2-8) powered through the Towson Tigers (2-7) on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. The Wildcats dominated play and the offense kept tight pressure on Towson throughout the entire game.
With seven minutes remaining in the first period, Allison Sayia delivered a key pass to Emma McLaughlin just outside the circle. McLaughlin drove in the middle of the circle and fired a shot into the net to score not only the first goal of the game, but also her first collegiate goal.
At the half, the Wildcats led 1-0. Villanova already put on 16 shots, nine of which were on goal, while Towson only had one shot that was on goal.
Villanova did not stop applying pressure and continued to dominate play on their half of the field. Emma McLaughlin put a shot on goal, that was blocked and Abby Siana immediately pounced and knocked the ball in off McLaughlin's rebound. This marks Siana's third goal of the season. Ten minutes later, Claire Weaver fired a shot on goal and Francesca Bello notched the ball in net off of Weaver's rebound. This marks Bello's sixth goal of the season and achieved the last goal of the game with just 30 seconds left in play. The final score of today's game was, Villanova 3, Towson 0.
Villanova finished with 38 shots, 19 of which were on goal. Erika Miller made the only Towson shot on goal. The Wildcats also finished with 18 penalty corners.
Villanova Field Hockey returns this weekend as they host two games. They will play a conference game against Quinnipiac on Friday September 30th at 4:00 pm and will play a non-conference game against Long Island University on Sunday October 2nd at 1:00 pm.
