April 9, 2017 PROVIDENCE, R.I. -
The Villanova women's tennis team (4-15) bounced back after a tough loss to defeat Providence (4-12) on Sunday afternoon with a 6-1 win.
The Wildcats dominated play throughout the match beginning with doubles play. Lindsey Evans and Victoria Martinez won 6-2 at the No. 1 singles spot while Kaylan Rotman and Linley Busby won 6-4 at the No. 2 spot. Finishing up doubles play were Carina Burdick and Connor Brewer who won 6-1 at the No. 3 spot. With a complete sweep at the doubles point, that gave Villanova an early advantage.
After being so successful in doubles play, the Wildcats took that momentum in singles play. Lindsey Evans won her singles match 6-1, 6-2 at the No. 1 spot. Victoria Martinez pushed a three-set match but fell to Risa Takenaka at the No. 2 spot, but it was no worry that the Wildcats swept the singles play with the next four matches. Freshmen Kaylan Rotman and Carina Rotman won their matches. Rotman went into a three-set match as well, but won 6-3, 3-6, 10-6 at the No. 3 singles, while Burdick won 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 4 singles. Senior leaders Linley Busby and Connor Brewer won their respective matches as well. Busby won 6-0, 6-3 at the No. 5 and Brewer won 7-5, 6-1 at the No. 6.
The Wildcats will return to action at home next weekend as they host Chestnut Hill and Lafayette in two matches on Saturday April 15. The Chestnut Hill match is expected to start at 10:00 a.m., while the Lafayette match is slated to start at 3:00 p.m.
