Villanova senior Jake Froccaro and redshirt junior Devin McNamara were namedUnited States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) 2017 Division I Scholar All-Americans. They join 53 other senior student-athletes.
In 1989 the USILA Scholar All-America Program was established to recognize student-athletes from USILA member institutions who have distinguished themselves academically, athletically and as citizens of their communities. The USILA Selection Committee selects an overall team representing Division I, II and III.
A Scholar All-American must be nominated by his coach and be a student with a senior year academic standing and a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 (4.0 scale). He will have behaved in a manner that has brought credit to himself, his institution, and to college lacrosse both on and off the field. He must also be an All-American, a member of a North/South team, or an outstanding league or conference player.
Froccaro, was named Second Team All-American and to the All-BIG EAST First Team. He finished this past season with 48 points on 34 goals and 14 assists. Also, he led the team in ground balls with 83 and went 74-for-141 (.525) from the faceoff X. He joined fellow teammates Jack Curran and Danny Sweeney as members for the South team during the USILA North South game last month. Froccaro was selected as the 7th pick in the MLL draft by the Chesapeake Bayhawks; he is Villanova's highest draft pick ever.
McNamara, who will return for a 5th year was named a team captain during the 2017 season. Playing most of the season as a midfielder he finished with 14 goals and 14 assists for a total of 28 points. He graduated with a degree in Finance in May and will enroll in the Master of Finance program at Villanova. Last season he was one of four active Wildcats to tally over 100 career points.
