VILLANOVA, Pa.- The Villanova softball team (19-17-1 overall, 4-5 BIG EAST) will begin its weekend series this Saturday when they host Big East Conference rival Georgetown (13-30 overall, 4-7 BIG EAST) in a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. The team will then play on Sunday at 12:00 p.m. as it will be Youth Day at the Villanova softball complex in which there will be a post-game autograph session in which the kids can get posters signed by the players.
Saturday will also be the day that the team wears pink in the annual Pink Game. The reason behind the pink game is to raise support and awareness for breast cancer. Donations will be accepted at the game for those who wish to donate.
LAST TIME OUT
The team is coming off doubleheader at Morgan State in which they fell in a tough first game 1-0 and a win in the second game 5-2 that ended in extra innings.
In the top of the eighth, Nikki Alden would get the bats going as she laced a double to right center to place a runner on second with just one out. A single by Dana Morris would advance Alden to third and after the throw, Morris would advance to second which meant two runners on with just one out.
Then Caroline Jones would come in clutch as she knocked a single scoring Alden to make the score 3-2. But the scoring would not end there as he next batter freshman Julia DaCosta would knock in her second double of the season scoring Morris and Jones to give the Wildcats the 5-2 win.
TAKING A LOOK AT THE STATS
Senior Nikki Alden leads the team in batting average at .407. She has 44 hits, 15 runs and 19 RBIs on the season. Senior Brittany Husk has a .374 batting average and is second on team in RBI's with 23. In the circle, freshman Anissa Amarillas has the top ERA on the team at 3.68. She is 12-10 on the year and has struck out 61 batters.
SCOUTING THE HOYAS
Georgetown is currently 13-30 overall this season and are coming off a recent win to Virginia by a score of 15-7. Since 2009, Georgetown has held the lead in the series by compiling 11 wins versus Villanova's nine. In the last matchup, Villanova prevailed over the Hoyas on April 15, 2017 when the Wildcats won 8-0. At the plate the Hoyas are led by Theresa Kane who is batting .331 on the year and leads the team in hits with 48. In the circle, Anna Brooks Pacha has started in all 21 games she has appeared in this season. She currently has an ERA of 4.42 and has a record of 8-11.

The team will be making up its postponed games against Rider on Tuesday April 24 as they will play in a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
