Gift from Villanova Alumni and Past Parents Supports New Men's Lacrosse Locker Room

May 4, 2018

Villanova, Pa. -

The Villanova Men's Lacrosse program has a new, state-of-the-art locker room, made possible through a generous commitment from alumni Susan '80 and Andrew '80 DiLoreto. The DiLoretos' three children attended Villanova, including former Villanova Men's Lacrosse player Andrew '09.

Part of the University's comprehensive capital campaign, "For the Greater Great: The Villanova Campaign to Ignite Change," the DiLoretos' $1 million gift designates $500,000 to the Men's Lacrosse locker room project. The other $500,000 supports a sustainability initiative in Villanova's College of Engineering.

"Susan and I are thrilled to have the opportunity to provide Villanova's players and coaches with new state-of-the-art facilities that are truly deserving of the Men's Lacrosse program," said Andy DiLoreto. "Our gift was inspired by our son Andrew's participation in the program from 2004-2009, and to recognize the outstanding leadership of Coach Corrado and the hard work and dedication of his staff. Coach Corrado is creating a truly elite program at Villanova-one we all can be very proud of."

Located in Villanova Stadium, the new locker room was dedicated on April 28, as part of Villanova Men's Lacrosse Alumni Day. It features a team lounge area with studying and social spaces, the latest in audio and video technology, wooden lockers and graphics that celebrate the team's history and Villanova Athletics' tradition of excellence.

"The new locker room is a huge step forward in our commitment to lacrosse at Villanova. We are extremely grateful to the DiLoreto family and the many other supporters whose leadership and generosity made this possible," said Mark Jackson, Director of Athletics. "We must continue to build upon this momentum and provide the right type of support to allow this program to excel at the championship level. We could not be more excited about the program's future."

"Our new locker room shows a true commitment from our University, alumni and friends to continue to enhance the Men's Lacrosse program," said Mike Corrado, Villanova Men's Lacrosse head coach. "This new facility will allow us to offer current and future student-athletes a first-class experience. This space will positively impact our players success on the field and in the classroom."

Villanova Men's Lacrosse started off the year 5-0, the best start in program history, and finished non-conference play with a 7-2 record.

The new locker room is one of several Athletics facilities supported through philanthropic investment in the Villanova Campaign to Ignite Change, including the Andrew J. Talley Athletic Center, the Higgins Soccer Complex, the Track & Field locker room, Villanova Field Hockey Complex, enhancements to the Davis Center, and the Women's Lacrosse locker room, which was dedicated last weekend. Renovations to the Finneran Pavilion-the home of Villanova's National Champion Men's Basketball program-are entirely donor-funded; the highly anticipated facility will open in Fall 2018.

Scheduled to close on May 31, 2018, the Villanova Campaign to Ignite Change currently totals more than $750 million in gifts and pledges-$150 million above its $600 million goal. Of the total, more than $160 million has been contributed in support of Villanova Athletics.
