VILLANOVA, PA. – The Villanova Field Hockey team is set to travel to Fairfield, Conn. Sunday, Aug. 26 for its season opener against Fairfield University at 1 p.m.
The Wildcats ended the 2018 season 7-10 overall and 3-4 in conference play. This season Villanova will be led by several returners. On the frontline, head coach
Joanie Milhous, brings back
Megan Vermeil,
Lydia Sydnor and
Abby Siana who will be strong contributors to the offense. At midfield,
Allison Sayia,
Emily Cliggett,
Emma McLaughlin and
Riley Dolan return after seeing extensive action during the 2017 season. On the back end,
Christen Pennington will be a strong asset playing alongside
Catie Ward and
Catie Ebner. The Wildcats also have a strong presence in the net with
Erika Miller, a 2017 All-BIG EAST Second Team honoree.
Villanova faced the Stags last season in a home matchup where the 'Cats defeated the non-conference opponent 2-1.
The Stags open their 2018 season with a trip to Easton, Pa. Friday, Aug. 24 where they will face Lafayette. Fairfield is a member of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference and landed a second-place spot on the preseason poll behind Monmouth at one. The Stags won the MAAC Championship in 2017, defeating the Hawks 2-1. That victory marked the Stags second conference championship within the span of three years.
Before returning to play again, Villanova will have time off after their first game and will resume play on Friday, Aug. 31 for their home opener against Indiana.
