Villanova (3-5, 0-2) is looking to turn around a four-game losing streak on Friday against BIG EAST rival Providence and earn its first conference victory of the season.
The Wildcats are coming off an 8-2 loss at Penn State on Sept. 29, where senior back
Christen Pennington and junior forward
Emily Clarke were the only two to get on the board.
SCOUTING PROVIDENCE
Providence (5-3, 1-1) ranks fourth in the conference as on games played through Sept. 30. The team is coming off a 2-0 loss to Louisville on Sept. 29.
The Friars have defeated BIG EAST opponent Temple, #24 Maine, Byrant, Brown and Lafayette this season.
Providence's leading scorer is Izzy Mendez, who has scored 5 goals and recorded two assists this season.
She was also named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll this week, for her game-winning goal against Temple.
The Friars have won the last three matches against the Wildcats.
Last year's game went into overtime, where Mendez scored the golden goal in the 72
nd minute.
NOTABLE STATISTICS
- Pennington is number two on the NCAA Division 1 Career Leader in defensive saves. She enters Friday's game with 15 throughout her career as a Wildcat, and two this season.
- The Wildcats are also tied for first for defensive saves as a team. They have recorded three in 2019.
- Villanova ranks second in the conference in penalty corners. The Wildcats have already earned 71 through 8 games played. UConn is in first place with 75 corners, but the Huskies have played two more games than the Wildcats.
- Senior Lydia Sydnor ranks first in the BIG East in goals per game (avg. 1.00) and second overall in goals (8) for the season.
