Villanova, Pa. – Villanova will compete in the 1969 Cup on Saturday. The Cup will be held at Lake Mercer in Princeton Junction, NJ.
 
This is the inaugural 1969 Cup, hosted by the University of Delaware in celebration of 50 years of varsity women's sports at the university. The regatta was initially scheduled to be held in Cherry Hill, NJ, but due to course improvements at that location was moved to Lake Mercer.
 
The 1969 Cup will feature a 2,000 meter course with side-by-side racing, the same format of racing during the spring season.
 
"We are excited for the opportunity to be part of the Cooper River Racing Series & the newly created 1969 Cup," head coach Carissa Adams said. "Coming off of our fall head race season we typically go right into land training; the addition of a spring-like competition will provide a boost to our entire team. The teams we will see this weekend will be a great benchmark for us & provide direct goals for us once we are on the ergs as we will see many of them again in the spring. Plus, side by side racing over 2,000 meters prior to March provides our walk on athletes invaluable race experience."
 
Racing begins at 10 a.m. with the Varsity Eights.
