NEW YORK – The Villanova Wildcats swept the weekly BIG EAST awards on Monday, Dec. 9. Senior forward
Mary Gedaka (Mullica Hill, N.J.) was named the BIG EAST Player of the Week, while redshirt freshman forward
Maddy Siegrist (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) garners the conference Rookie of the Week award for their play in two games last week versus Drexel and Saint Joseph's. This is the third time in four weeks that Siegrist has been awarded this honor.
In two games last week, Gedaka averaged 17.5 points per game, 10.5 rebounds per contest and 2.5 blocks per game, while shooting .500 from the field (15-of-30). Against Drexel, she tallied a double-double with 16 points and a career-high 16 rebounds to go with a career-high tying four blocks. In Saturday's win over Saint Joseph's, Gedaka tallied 19 points and five rebounds in the victory. For the year, she is averaging 16.6 points per game and 6.1 rebounds per contest and is shooting .505 from the field (66-of-128).
Siegrist posted back-to-back 20-point games and averaged 23.5 points per game, 6.5 rebounds per contest and shot .515 from the field in the two games. After tallying 24 points and five rebounds against Drexel, she registered 23 points, eight rebounds, three assists and three steals versus Saint Joseph's. Siegrist currently leads the Wildcats in scoring (20.3 ppg.), rebounding (7.9 rpg.) and field goal percentage (.516). She also leads the Big East Conference in 20-point games with five.
Villanova returns to action on Tuesday, Dec. 10, with a road game at Temple. Tip-off at McGonigle Hall is set for 5 p.m.
