Men's Lacrosse to Take on No. 1 Yale Saturday Afternoon

Matchup:  The Villanova Wildcats will take on the defending national champion the Yale Bulldogs in New Haven, Connecticut on Saturday afternoon.  First faceoff is scheduled for 1:00 P.M. and can be seen on ESPN+.

Last Meeting:  The Wildcats defeated the Bulldogs in overtime last season when they met in the Patriot Cup.  A goal by Danny Seibel in overtime game the Wildcats a 10-9 victory in Frisco, Texas. 
Series History:  This will be the third meeting between these two teams.  The Bulldogs won the first meeting in 2017 at Villanova 16-11 while the Wildcats took last year's contest.

A Look at Villanova.  The Wildcats are receiving votes this week in the polls and are coming off a bye week.  Villanova opened the season on February 2nd at Penn State and fell to the Nittany Lions 17-7. 

Villanova's Offense:  Joey Froccaro made his return in the season opener.  The senior missed last season due to injury and started this season moving to the attack line.  Joining him at attack is a pair of sophomores in Keegan Khan and Corey McManus.  Khan, 2018 BIG EAST Freshman of the Year, and McManus, each netted one goal against Penn State.  Freshman Jimmy Gabrielsen netted two of Villanova's three goals in the fourth quarter placing the only two shots his took into the back of the net. 

Villanova's Defense:  Zack Ornstein made his return to the faceoff X against Penn State and went 8-for-19 (.422) and had a team high six ground balls.  Villanova collected 32 ground balls and caused seven turnovers in the season opener.  Nick Testa had his 13th game with 10 plus saves to start the season. 

A Look at Yale:  The Bulldogs will open their 2019 season against the Wildcats on Saturday.  Sophomore defenseman Chris Fake, junior face-off specialist TD Ierlan, senior midfielder Jack Tigh and junior attackman Jackson Morrill were named to Inside Lacrosse Pre-Season Media Division I All-American list.  Last season Yale went 17-3 and captured both an Ivy League Championship and the schools first NCAA title.
