Villanova, Pa. – Water Polo heads to western Pennsylvania to compete in the Washington & Jefferson Tournament. They will compete against Salem and Gannon on Saturday, and McKendree and Penn State Behrend Sunday.
A Look at Villanova: Villanova currently holds a record of 1-4. They beat George Washington while falling to Harvard, Iona, Brown, and Princeton. The Wildcats currently have four players with 10 points or more. They are
Kaysie Stuba,
Kate Stenmoen,
Kate Murray and
Malia Gacutan. Stuba currently has the most goals on the team with 12 while Stenmoen trails her by just one with 11. Murray is tied with
Charlotte Curran for third on the team in goals with six.
Rachel Jennings has been getting the start in net for Villanova with
Gaby Palmisano coming in for the second half of the game.
A Look at Salem: Salem owns a record of 2-7. So far, they have defeated Mercyhurst and La Salle. Their seven losses have come against Bucknell, Harvard, La Salle, Saint Francis (twice), VMI, and Iona. They are led by Annefleur ten Bloemendal. She has a team high 66 shots, 22 goals, and 31 points. Philippa Piper has started all nine games in net for Salem. She has 88 saves, 104 goals against with a .458 save percent and 11.32 goals against average.
A Look at Gannon: Through the first eight games of their season, Gannon has a record of 1-7. Their lone win of the season has come against La Salle. They picked up losses against Harvard, Wagner, Saint Francis, Siena, VMI, Iona, ad Bucknell. Villanova and Gannon will matchup again on March 30
th in Erie, Pa. In their win over La Salle, Gannon had six different players register multiple points.
A Look at McKendree: Like Gannon, McKendree will also play the Wildcats twice this season. McKendree opened their season up this past weekend in the Mercyhurst Invite. In their first game they beat La Salle before dropping two to Bucknell and Iona. They then finished up the tournament with a win over Saint Francis.
A Look at Penn State Behrend: The W&J Tournament will be the first games of the season for Penn State Behrend. Their game against Villanova will be the final game of the tournament for them. Last season they were led in net by goalie Holly Hanson. She played in 16 games and finished the season with 142 saves and 156 goals against. Lauren Wood led the team with 35 goals last year and Devon Van Rensburg was just behind her with 33.
