Villanova, Pa. – After dropping the first two games of the season, Villanova Water Polo looks to come back strong for two games in Princeton on Saturday. They will take on Brown at 11:30 A.M. and then will face the George Washington Colonials at 4:30 P.M.
A Look at Villanova: While their record sits at 0-2, there are many things to be happy about. The first thing is freshman
Kaysie Stuba taking Rookie of the Week honors in her first week of competition. She racked up six goals, three assists, and 12 shots. Senior
Kate Stenmoen also had a great first weekend as she tallied 12 shots, six goals, and an assist. A number of other Wildcats also chipped in with goals such as
Charlotte Curran with three,
Kate Murray who scored on a 5-meter,
Malia Gacutan with two, and
Paris Huffman with one. Sophomore
Rachel Jennings started each game in net for the Cats, and freshman
Gaby Palmisano took over at the beginning of the third quarter in both games.
A Look at Brown: Brown already has six games under their belt and currently holds a record of 4-2. Of the six games they have played, five of them have been against MAAC teams. They hold a record of 3-2 in those games with wins over La Salle, St. Francis-Brooklyn, and Siena. They fell to Wagner, Marist, and Cal Lutheran who is outside of the MAAC. In the Princeton Invitational, they will face off against two more MAAC teams consisting of Villanova and Iona. Brown was in the receiving votes section in the latest top 25 poll.
A Look at George Washington: Saturday will mark the first two games of the year for the Colonials as they take on St. Francis-Brooklyn at 1:00 P.M. and then face Villanova at 4:30 P.M. George Washington finished last season with an overall record of 14-16 and a conference record of 3-5. They were led by now sophomore Alana Ponce. She finished her freshman season leading GW in goals (65) and points (91). Villanova will look to attempt to slow her down as they look to take down the Colonials.
