PHILADELPHIA - The Villanova women's rowing team competed against the Delaware Blue Hens and Saint Joseph's Hawks on Saturday morning on the Schuylkill River. The Wildcats won the Varsity Four and the 3rd Varsity 8 while coming in second for the 2nd Varsity 8 and 2nd Varsity 8.

Head coach Carissa Adams on the day, "I thought the team did well given the conditions.  We were encouraged by the fact that all boats felt that their performance was strong in the areas of the race that we focused on in practice last week. These early season races allow us to identify areas where we can improve and help bring a focus to our training plan.  This weekend was a good warmup for the strong competition we are going to face next weekend."

There were 12-16 mph variable winds on the Schuylkill River with a variable cross tail wind.

The Wildcats first win of the day was in the 3rd Varsity 8 where they won by 36 seconds. Villanova's second win of the day was in the Varsity 4 where the Wildcats finished seven seconds ahead of Saint Joseph's.

Villanova nearly won the 2nd Varsity 8 and 2nd Varsity 4. In the 2nd Varsity 8, Saint Joseph's beat the Wildcats by three seconds. In the 2nd Varsity 4, Delaware beat Villanova by two tenths of a second.

Next up for the Wildcats is the Cooper Sprints on Sunday March 24 on the Cooper River in Camden, New Jersey.
