CHERRY HILL, N.J. – The Villanova women's rowing team competed at the Cooper Sprints on Sunday afternoon on the Cooper River. The Wildcats competed against tough competition as there were 14 other schools racing.
Head coach, Carissa Adams on the Cooper Sprints, "The purpose of this race is to expose our student-athletes to the next tier of Division I competition. The goals for the team during this regatta are simple; row hard, step up, stay composed and learn from our competitors. We can't expect our team to understand what fast rowing is until we expose them to fast rowing."
The first race of the day was the Varsity 8, the Wildcats were in the third heat of the race and finished with a time of 7:22.30. In the Third Final, Villanova's time was 6:55.39 coming ahead of West Virginia and Boston College.
In the Second Varsity 8, the Wildcats finished with a time of 7:05.24 in the second heat. Villanova then competed in the Petite Final and final time was 7:07.60
For the Varsity Four, Villanova's time was 8:17.00 and then competed in the Petite Final with a time of 7:54.68 and ahead of Boston College.
The fourth event of the day was the Third Varsity 8 with Villanova coming in first in Heat 1 with a time of 7:12.39. In the Grand Final, the Wildcats' time was 7:22.72.
Villanova then competed in the Second Varsity 4 and in Heat 2 finished with 8:47.95 and then in the Petite Final time was 8:46.01.
In the Novice Eight, the Wildcats finished with a time of 7:52.00 finishing ahead of Massachusetts.
The Wildcats will return to action on Sunday April 7th in the Cooper Invitational on the Cooper River in Camden, N.J.
