Villanova, Pa. – Villanova Women's Water Polo is set to wrap up their final non conference games in the Erie Tournament this weekend.
Saturday brings three games with the first against McKendree at 8:30 AM. The second will be against Penn State Behrend at 12:30 PM, and the third will be at 7:00 PM against Gannon. They will wrap the tournament up playing Mercyhurst Sunday at 10 AM.
A Look at Villanova: The Wildcats head into the weekend looking to get back into the rhythm they were in when they started 3-0 in conference play. Villanova has a record of 8-13 and a 3-4 conference record. The Cats have five players with at least 48 points. They are
Kaysie Stuba (67),
Kate Stenmoen (55),
Kate Murray (51), and
Charlotte Curran and
Malia Gacutan both have 48. Trailing them is
Amanda Rice with 30,
Paris Huffman and
Maria Breen with 19, and
Camille Oswald with 16. Goalies
Rachel Jennings and
Gaby Palmisano have been competing all year for playing time in net.
A Look at McKendree: This will be the second matchup of the season between Villanova and McKendree. Villanova dropped the first matchup in a close one by a score of 14-13 back in late February. McKendree heads into this matchup with a 6-9 record and won their last game against Lindenwood. They have only played once since March 3
rd. They have played two MAAC schools already beating La Salle and falling to Iona.
A Look at Penn State Behrend: Villanova and PSB also previously played this season. The Wildcats came away with a 26-3 victory. PSB heads into this tournament with a 3-15 record and an 0-3 conference record. They have won two out of their last three beating Utica and Washington & Jefferson, with their lone lost coming at Grove City.
A Look at Gannon: This will also be a repeat matchup with the Wildcats taking on Gannon. Villanova narrowly escaped with a 14-13 win back on Feb. 23. Gannon has a 5-13 record but are 2-0 in conference play. Their last game action came on February 16
th when they beat Mercyhurst, and then fell to Saint Francis. Campbell Ruh leads the team with 62 points including 37 goals and 25 assists. Kelly Fehr leads the team in goals with 47.
A Look at Mercyhurst: Mercyhurst will take on Grove City Friday night before competing in the Erie Tournament. They head into that game with a 1-13 record with their win coming against VMI back on Feb. 17. In their last two games they dropped close matchups to Saint Francis (9-8) and Gannon (7-5).
