PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. – Villanova baseball scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead against the Northeastern Huskies and would go on to win 5-2. All four Wildcats runs in the sixth were scored with two outs.
Jonathan Rosero got the start for the Wildcats going five and a third innings. He gave up five hits and two runs both were earned. Rosero had five strikeouts.
In the top of first the Huskies had runners on second and third with two outs. A wild pitch by Rosero would get the Huskies on the board and lead 1-0.
Both teams were held in check in the second and third innings. As there were only two hits combined in those two innings.
The Huskies started the top of the fourth with a lead off double to right center field. The runner would advance to third after a wild pitch to increase their lead to 2-0.
In the bottom of the sixth Villanova would start the inning with a single by Timothy Lilly. Lilly would advance to second after a Tyler Bruno ground out. With two outs and a runner on second, the next two Wildcat batters were walked. With the bases loaded, JP Radvany would be hit by a pitch to give the Wildcats' their first run of the game. The bases still loaded, the Huskies would then throw a wild pitch and all the baserunners would move up a base and the game would be tied at 2-2. Runners on second and third, Ryan Toohers hit a single to left center field to score both runners and give Villanova the lead 4-2.
The Wildcats' offense continued in the bottom of the seventh, Lilly singled to right center field. Dylan McNary singled to left center field and Lilly advanced to third. Pat O'Neil hit a sacrifice fly to left field to score Lilly and it increased Villanova's lead to 5-2.
The top of the ninth, the Huskies had runners on first and second with no outs but were not able to do anything with it.
Mike Schwartz picked up the win for Villanova, his first of the season. Jimmy Kingsbury got the save. Kingsbury went two innings, giving up one hit and he had three strikeouts.
Villanova's next game is on Friday March 8th in an exhibition against the Philadelphia Phillies Prospects with first pitch scheduled for 1:00 p.m. The game is at Spectrum Field in Clearwater, Florida.
Dylan McNary went two for four. It was his fourth multi-hit game this season. Timothy Lilly also had two hits for the Wildcats and it was his second game this season with multiple hits.
