Water Polo Set For Final Weekend Of MAAC Play

Philadelphia, Pa. – Women's Water Polo heads into the final weekend of regular season play. They will take on La Salle and VMI at La Salle on Saturday, before hosting Wagner and Marist on Sunday.
 
A Look at Villanova: The Wildcats come into the weekend at 12-17 and 3-7 in conference play. Freshman Kaysie Stuba ranks seventh in the conference in points with 91 and is just five behind of sixth place. Kate Murray is tied for fifth in the conference in steals with 57, while Malia Gacutan is tied for fifth in assists with 38. Kate Stenmoen ranks third on the team with 73 points including 57 goals. Charlotte Curran is just behind her with 68 points on 49 goals and 19 assists. Amanda Rice and Maria Breen have all crosses the 30-point mark with 37 and 32 respectively.
 
A Look at La Salle: The Explorers come into the weekend 9-17 and 2-8 in MAAC play. They have dropped four straight conference games. La Salle got the best of Villanova in the first matchup when the Explorers pulled out a 14-13 win. Sarah Defuso leads the team with 84 points which is tied for ninth in the MAAC. They will play three games this weekend hosting Villanova and Wagner, and then taking on Siena on Sunday.
 
A Look at VMI: VMI is right in the thick of things in the conference with a 6-5 record in MAAC play and a 16-9 overall record. Villanova and VMI met back on March 23rd and VMI was able to pull out an 8-7 win in Staten Island. Their two leading scorers are McKenna Imset and Sarah Dolitsky who have 77 and 71 goals. They will take on Iona and Villanova on Satuday, and then will face Wagner on Sunday.
 
A Look at Wagner: Heading into the weekend, Wagner sits atop the MAAC standings with a perfect 9-0 conference record and an overall record of 23-9. Sofia Diaz Alvarez and Erica Hardy have the second most goals in the conference with 93 and 79. Hardy leads the whole conference in points with 148. They come into the weekend winners of three in a row with their last loss coming at #18 Princeton on March 30th. They will take on La Salle, Siena, Villanova, and VMI to wrap up their regular season.
 
A Look at Marist: Marist is just behind Wagner in the standings with an 8-1 conference record and 16-13 overall record. Last time the Wildcats met Marist, the Red Foxes were able to pull out an 11-8 win. Marist has 10 players with 20 or more points for a balanced offensive attack. Anais Mathes, Katherine Tijerina, and Justine Castro are the top three scorers with 49, 49, and 48 points respectively. They will play four games this weekend against Siena, St. Francis Brooklyn, Iona, and Villanova. Next weekend they will hit the road to take on Brown.
