Villanova is looking to keep its best four-game start to a season since 2008 going when it travels to Washington D.C. tomorrow to take on Georgetown at 1 p.m. This game also opens BIG EAST play up for the Wildcats.
Between the last four meetings, the Wildcats hold the record advantage 3-1 over the Hoyas.
Last season, Villanova beat Georgetown at home 5-2 after a scoring onslaught in the second half of the game. Then-junior
Christen Pennington scored two back-to-back goals in the last twenty minutes of the game. Then-juniors
Lydia Sydnor and
Megan Vermeil, as well as then-sophomore
Emily Clarke also scored in the game.
Villanova will look to its two leading scorers, Vermeil and Sydnor, to continue to make plays for them on Friday.
Sydnor, who was named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week, leads the NCAA in goals per game and already has seven goals this season.
Vermeil, who scored three times in the Wagner and Penn games combined, has recorded three goals and three assists to start the season.
The Wildcats have also been strong on defense. Villanova's goalkeeper, sophomore
Jordan McGinley, has been gaining confidence in the box with every game. She made 10 saves in Villanova's last two games combined.
Senior captain and back
Christen Pennington has two assists and one goal this season. She has also been strong in helping the Wildcats retain offensive possession during games.
The Hoyas have started the season 3-3, with wins over Rider, Longwood and Davidson. Its leading scorer is Lindsay Getz who has three goals this season. This is the first time that Georgetown will be playing on its home field since Sept. 1.
