Dominant Second Half Lifts Wildcats over Owls 3-0

Philadelphia, Pa.- Villanova scored three goals in the second half which secured the Wildcats a 3-0 victory over the Temple Owls on Sunday afternoon. Villanova is now 3-2-1 on the season while the Owls move to 1-3-1.

"Our staff are really proud of the team performance today," shared associate head coach Daniel Clitnovici.  "The first half didn't give us the reward for the amount of possession we had but we were able to make some adjustments at half time and overall we are glad we found the 3 second half goals".

The Wildcats dominated offensively the whole game taking 19 shots to the Owls four.  Villanova took nine shots in the first half alone and Niki Molina, Jane Olcott, and Kristin Barbour all placed theirs on goal.  After heading into the locker room at halftime tied 0-0 the Wildcats offense clicked in the second half.

Clitnovici continued, "We enjoy possession and we like to control the game; I felt our first half we were good but not great as we wanted to be more composed in the attacking half. The second half the team responded and took it to another level. Overall we are happy with the two wins over this tough weekend".

In the 53rd minute Villanova got on the board when Kristin Barbour got a pass into the box just a couple yards off the goal line.  Brice McInroy was right there and placed a header right on goal that first hit the post and then bounced into the back of the net.

Just three minutes later Sam Rosette kicked a ball that was heading towards the end line back into the box.  The ball went right to Chloe O'Neill who was able to use the top of her foot and line drive the ball towards the goal.  McInroy was standing right in front and was able to connect the ball into the back of the net to go up 2-0.

O'Neill then in the 65th minute set up Allison Breed, who headed the ball into the goal to make the scored 3-0.

Goalkeeper Hensley Hancuff registered her third shutout of the season.  Hancuff had three big saves during the match and kept the Owls off the board.

"I felt that a lot of the pieces we've been working on in training finally came together today. It was beautiful soccer and it got me excited for what's to come," McInroy shared after scoring two goals during the match.  "All of our goals today required these little things; little runs and movements from other players that nobody notices in order to open up that space for the cross or in front of the goal. Obviously, it was great getting some stats today but for me each of those goals really belong to the team. Everyone on the field had a part in the buildup or the final play and the bench energy drove those on the field to keep on pushing. It was just a really fun game".

Villanova will return to action next Sunday the 15th when they host Florida State.  Kickoff is schedule for 1:00 P.M. and can be seen on Nova Nation All-Access.
