Maddy Siegrist (Poughkeepsie, N.Y) was named the league's Rookie of the Week for the sixth time this season, while senior forward
Mary Gedaka (Mullica Hill, N.J.) earned a spot on the weekly honor roll.
In three games where the Wildcats went 2-1, Siegrist averaged 16.3 points per game and 11.0 rebounds per contest, while shooting .461 from the field (18-of-39). Her best effort of the week came in Sunday's 67-62 overtime win over St. John's when she tallied her BIG EAST leading fifth double-double with 22 points and a career-high 15 rebounds. She also registered a double-double versus Seton Hall with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Siegrist currently leads the BIG EAST in scoring at 20.6 points per game to go with an 8.7 rebounds per contest average.
Gedaka averaged 19.7 points per game and 6.0 rebounds per contest in the three games. She recorded back-to-back 20-point games in wins over Seton Hall and St. John's with 20 versus the Pirates and 21 against the Red Storm. In the three contests, she was 25-of-52 from the field for 48.0 percent. Gedaka is currently averaging 17.5 points per game and 6.5 rebounds per contest.
The Wildcats return to action on Friday, Jan. 10, when the Butler Bulldogs visit the Finneran Pavilion. Tip-off is set for 11:30 a.m. Villanova is currently 8-6 overall and 3-1 in conference play.
