Villanova to Compete at Indiana Classic

VILLANOVA, Pa. – After taking on a slew of strong teams last weekend in California, Villanova's water polo team is back in action, although on again on the road.

The Wildcats will be heading to Bloomington for the Indiana Classic. While there, they will once again be facing some of the country's top teams. Villanova starts the weekend with a match against No. 25 California Baptist on Feb. 15 at 12:00 P.M. They follow that up at 4:00 P.M. with a contest against St. Francis. On Feb. 16, the Wildcats take on No. 15 Indiana at 9:00 A.M.

A Look at CBU: The Lancers have gone up against four ranked teams this season – No. 1 USC, No. 7 (DIII) Chapman, No. 21 CSUN and No. 6 (DIII) Redlands – and have come away from those games with a 2-2 record. Overall, they are 4-2 on the season, with the other wins coming against Fresno Pacific and Ottawa (AZ). CBU is averaging just under 11 goal per game, while allowing just around eight. The last meeting between the Wildcats and Lancers came in 2018, a 11-7 victory for CBU.

A Look at Saint Francis: With an overall record of 3-4, the Red Flash come into the Indiana Classic having lost two straight. Saint Francis has won its three games by a total of five goals and is averaging nine goals per game. Defensively, they have allowed more than 11 goals per game. It will be the first meeting between the two teams, as SFU began the program in 2017.

A Look at Indiana: The Hoosiers are 3-5 overall, but have only played ranked teams this season. Indiana was bested No. 11 Pacific, No. 24 Marist and No. 9 UC Davis by a combined total of 35-24. Three of their losses – No. 9 UCSB, No. 21 Wagner and No. 12 Long Beach State – were all decided by one goal. It will be the first game the Hoosiers have played against the Wildcats since 2015.
