BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Villanova women's water polo has taken on some top-level teams so far this season. When the Wildcats traveled to Indiana for the Indiana Classic, they continued that narrative.
 
Villanova opened the day by taking on No. 25 California Baptist. Allie Hansen and Amanda Rice notched first-half goals for the Wildcats, but they found themselves trailing 10-2 at the intermission. Things stayed the same in the second, as CBU outscored the Wildcats 7-5. Emily Morrissey led the offense with two goals, while Isabel Herbst, Charlotte Curran and Kaysie Stuba each had one.
 
The second match against Saint Francis provided plenty of tension.
 
Villanova fell behind 1-0 in the early goings, but quickly responded with a goal from Malia Gacutan. After another SFU goal Herbst netted a goal to draw even once more. However, after one quarter the Red Flash led, 4-2.
 
The second quarter saw the Wildcat defense step up, allowing no goals. Meanwhile, Gacutan and Rice each recorded goals to level things at halftime. Villanova got two more goals from Rice in the third, while Hansen added one of her own and the Wildcats led 7-6 after three.
 
SFU quickly tied things to open the fourth, only to have Curran break the tie less than a minute later. The junior would then put the Wildcats ahead by two scores with 5:49 left in regulation. After the Red Flash tied things with 4:21 to go, Morrissey scored her first goal of the game to put Villanova ahead once more. However, SFU would score with under a minute to go to force overtime.
 
After one scoreless frame, the game went into double overtime. Saint Francis scored the go-ahead goal with 2:07 left, a result that would hold for the remainder of the game.

Villanova concluded the tournament by taking on No. 15 Indiana. The Hoosiers were able to outpace the WIldcats, 16-3. Curran scored all of Villanova's goals.
