No. 15 Villanova Travels to Delaware Saturday

Villanova, Pa.- The Villanova Wildcats moved up to No. 15 in the polls this week after going 2-0 with wins over Maryland and Hofstra last week.  This Saturday the Wildcats will travel down 476 to take on the Delaware Blue Hens.  Game time in Newark is scheduled for 12:00 P.M.

A Look at Villanova:  The Wildcats are 2-2 entering Saturday's game and are looking for their third straight win.  After falling to No. 1 Penn State and No. 3 Yale the Wildcats rebounded defeating No. 4 Maryland 13-12 at home.  Last weekend an early run was enough to help secure Villanova's 10-8 win over Hofstra. 

Villanova's offense has been led the senior Connor Kirst.  The Tewaarton Watch List nominee has a team high 16 points on 10 goals and six assists.  In both games last week Kirst finished with a hat trick along with two assists against Maryland and one against Hofstra.  A pair of starting attackmen in Keegan Khan and Patrick Daly have both contributed 10 points this season, Daly on eight goals and two assists and Khan on six goals and four assists. 

On defense Patrick Kennedy has been filling up the stat sheets, the redshirt junior leads the team with 17 ground balls and nine caused turnovers.  The redshirt junior also netted his first career goal against Maryland.  In goal this season has been sophomore Will Vitton.  In just over 225 minutes the keeper has a .449 save percentage along with 44 total saves and 14.25 goals against average. 

A Look at Delaware:  The Blue Hens are 3-1 entering Saturday's matchup and are coming off an 11-2 win at Monmouth last weekend.  To open the season Delaware defeated Mount St. Mary's 14-8 and then NJIT 13-1 before fall to Saint Joseph's in a midweek matchup 11-8.

Delaware's starting attack has been the offensive leaders through their first four games. Senior Charlie Kitchen leads the Blue Hens with 17 points this season while Tye Kurtz has played a balance attack with eight goals and eight assists.  Mike Robinson has 14 points on 12 goals and a pair of assists.  Midfielder Clay Miller is the other Blue Hen with double digit points this season on five goals and eight assists. 

Jake Hervada is the Blue Hens primary FOG, who has gone 25-48 with 13 ground balls this season.  Starting defenseman Owen Grant has a team high nine caused turnover along with 11 ground balls while fellow defender Tate Wasson has seven and seven.  Starting in goal will be Matt DeLuca, the senior has a 5.49 goals against average, .712 save percentage, and 52 total saves in 229 minutes between the pipes. 

Series History:  Saturday will mark the 20th meeting all time between the Wildcats and Blue Hens with Villanova having won 12 of the previous matchups.  Last season the Wildcats won 17-9 led by then rookie Matt Campbell's six goal performance.
