Women's Basketball Travels to Creighton Friday Night

Villanova will travel to Omaha, Neb., on Friday night to take on the Creighton Bluejays. The Wildcats enter play with a 16-11 overall record and a 10-6 BIG EAST mark, while Creighton is 17-10 overall and 9-7 in league action. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m., eastern time and can be seen live on FS1.
 
Friday's game will be the second meeting of the season between the Wildcats and Bluejays. In a game played at Villanova on Dec. 31, Creighton registered a 58-42 win. In the loss, senior forward Mary Gedaka led Villanova with 18 points. She was 6-of-13 from the field, 1-of-2 from three and 5-of-9 from the foul line. Maddy Siegrist finished with 10 points and a team-high eight rebounds. Creighton was paced by Jaylen Agnew who scored a game-high 31 points to go with a game-best nine rebounds. Temi Carda also reached double figures with 12 points to go with eight assists. For the game, Villanova was 15-of-50 from the field (30.0%), 4-of-24 from three-point range (16.7%) and 8-of-13 from the foul line (61.5%), while Creighton shot 35.2 percent from the floor (19-54), 33.3 percent from behind the arc (9-of-27) and 91.7 percent from the charity stripe (11-of-12). The Bluejays owned a 41-34 advantage on the backboards. 
 
The WBCA announced on Thursday, Feb. 27, that Villanova head women's basketball coach Harry Perretta has won the 2020 Carol Eckman Integrity In Coaching Award. This award is named in honor of the late Carol Eckman, the former West Chester State College coach, who is considered the "Mother of the Women's Collegiate Basketball Championship." Eckman organized the first women's basketball championship in 1969 at West Chester. She continued to garner recognition and support for the women's game until her death from cancer in 1985. The WBCA presents the award annually to an active member coach who exemplifies Eckman's spirit, integrity and character through sportsmanship, commitment to the student-athlete, honesty, ethical behavior, courage and dedication to purpose.
 
Villanova enters play on the final weekend of the Big East regular season with a 10-6 conference record.  This marks the sixth time in the seven years since then new BIG EAST began in 2013-14 the Wildcats have registered double digit league wins. Villanova has a 78-46 mark (.629) in conference games since 2013-14. Last year's Villanova team went 9-9 in league action.
 
In Sunday's win over No. 12 DePaul, senior guard Cameron Onken tallied just the second triple-double in program history when she had 12 points, a career-high 18 rebounds and a career-best 10 assists. The first triple-double by a Wildcat was registered by Liad Suez-Karni at Notre Dame on Feb. 2, 2006, when she had 14 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists in an overtime win over the Irish.
 
 Villanova is led in scoring and rebounding by redshirt freshman Maddy Siegrist who is averaging 19.6 points per game and 8.9 rebounds per contest. Gedaka is second on the team in scoring with a 17.4 points per contest average.
