BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Villanova (2-1) handed Lehigh (3-1) its first loss of the season, defeating the Mountain Hawks 6-1 on Saturday night.
Sophomore
Lindsay Zimmermann made her Villanova playing debut, playing No. 1 singles with junior
Claudia Althans.
The Wildcats clinched the doubles points with strong showings from the No. 2 doubles pairing of junior
Lexi DeNucci and senior
Kaylan Rotman and No. 3 doubles from senior
Carina Burdick and sophomore
Olivia Kapp. DeNucci and Rotman won 6-2 and Burdick and Kapp won 6-3.
Villanova captured five of its six singles matches, with Zimmermann recording her first collegiate win in the No. 1 spot.
This is the second straight year that the team has recorded a win over the Mountain Hawks.
The Wildcats will be back on the road again on Friday when they travel to Queens, N.Y. to take on St. John's University.
