Villanova to Open BIG EAST Tournament Thursday at 7 p.m.

Wildcats will be the No. 2 seed

NEW YORK, N.y. - The BIG EAT Conference released its 2020 Men's Basketball Tournament bracket Saturday night at the conclusion of Butler's 72-71 victory at Xavier.

No. 2 seed Villanova, winner of the last three BIG EAST Tournaments and four of the last five, will take on the winner of the Wednesday night matchup between No. 7 seed Xavier and No. 10 seed DePaul. That contest will be the second game of Wednesday night's doubleheader. The winner will advance to meet the Wildccats at 7 p.m. Thursday.

The Wildcats, by virtue of Saturday's 70-69 victory at Georgetown, earned a share of the BIG EAST regular season crown with Creighton and Seton Hall. All three teams finished with identical 13-5 BIG EAST marks. Creighton gets the top seed by virtue of the tiebreaker. The Pirates will be the third seed and face No. 6 seed Marquette in the second game Thursday night.

In the seven seasons since the BIG EAST reconfigured as a 10-team alliance in 2013, Villanova has been either a No. 1 seed (five times) or a No. 2 seed (twice). Since dropping a 64-63 decision to Seton Hall in a 2014 BIG EAST Tournament quarterfinal, the Wildcats are 14-1 in this event.

The 2019-20 men's basketball season - Villanova's 100th season - is presented by Hartford Funds and Coca-Cola.
