RICHMOND, Va.—The third tournament of the fall season was a successful one for Villanova as four different players won their respective singles flights at the River City Tennis Open at the Williams-Bollettieri Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon. The trio of senior
Matthew Jones (Dallas, Texas), sophomore
Eitan Khromchenko (Manalapan, N.J.) and sophomore
Noah Winton (Columbia, Mo.) went 3-0 to win their flights outright while sophomore
Ryan Nguyen (Oakton, Va.) won two of three matches to finish first in his flight. In all the Wildcats tallied an 18-9 record in singles play during the tournament which was shortened due to inclement weather later in the weekend.
Jones and Winton won their flights by outlasting their opponents in tiebreakers on Saturday morning. After winning two matches by straight sets in Flight 16 on Friday, Jones faced Stefan Petrovic from James Madison on Saturday and emerged as the flight champion following a 6-3, 3-6, 11-9 victory. Winton had a similar path to a first place finish in Flight 21 after he won his two matches against opponents from George Mason on Friday. In his third match of the tournament on Saturday morning Winton faced Alaister Burke from tournament host Richmond and posted a 6-1, 6-7 (4), 10-8 victory.
Khromchenko closed out his three wins in Flight 14 with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Raphael Mujan of Radford on Saturday morning. He had opened the tournament with a pair of wins over opponents from James Madison and Georgetown on Friday. Nguyen was the Flight 18 champion despite falling in straight sets (6-1, 6-4) to Faisal Alrebdi of George Mason on Saturday. Nguyen and Karl Katlaps from Radford each finished 2-1 in the flight, but Nguyen owned the advantage thanks to a 6-2, 6-2 win over Katlaps on Friday afternoon.
In other singles action on Saturday, freshman
Trey Fourticq (Los Angeles, Calif.) finished second in Flight 11 after posting a 6-4, 6-4 win over Campbell Erwin from Richmond to go 2-1 in his matches at the tournament. Junior
Alex Kim (Cary, N.C.) went 2-1 and came in second in Flight 19, with his results from the tournament including wins over George Mason and Longwood on Friday before he was defeated in a tiebreaker by Sasha Panyan from Navy on Saturday.

Justin Suarez (Manila, Philippines), sophomore
Josh Robinson (Potomac, Md.) and sophomore
Anthony Prokurat (Manalapan, N.J.) each finished third in their respective singles flights. Suarez was the only one of the three to post a win on Saturday as he rallied from a set down to defeated Jake Fraunfelder from the College of Charleston in a 2-6, 7-5, 10-8 decision.
Villanova also wrapped up competition in several doubles flights as well as in a separate doubles match against a team from Longwood to conclude its stay in the tournament played both at the Collegiate School and on the Richmond campus.
Next up on the Wildcats schedule for the fall season is the ITA Atlantic Regional hosted by Navy from October 14-17.
