ANNAPOLIS, Md.—A full slate of matches continued at the ITA Atlantic Regional on Friday and Villanova once again had success in both singles and doubles play in its final scheduled tournament of the fall season. Sophomore Josh Robinson (Potomac, Md.) led the Wildcats in the main singles draw by advancing to the round of 32, while four doubles teams from Villanova all won their first matches of the tournament in the doubles draw round of 64. This week's regional is being hosted by Navy and runs from Thursday through Sunday in Annapolis.
 
Robinson won two matches in the singles draw to reach the round of 32 on Friday afternoon. His second match of the tournament was against Sergiu Medesan of Coppin State in the round of 64 and he posted a comfortable 7-5, 6-2 victory. In the round of 32, Robinson faced Miko Eala of Penn State and fell in straight sets by scores of 6-3 and 6-1.
 
Each of the four doubles teams competing for the Wildcats got off to a strong start with wins in their opening matches. Sophomore Anthony Prokurat (Manalapan, N.J.) and junior Justin Suarez (Manila, Philippines) were 8-4 winners against Kaipo Marshall and Jin Dassanayake of Duquesne in the round of 64. Sophomore Eitan Khromchenko (Manalapan, N.J.) and freshman Trey Fourticq (Los Angeles, Calif.) advanced in a tiebreaker against Chikaya Sato and Harrison Janes from Penn State in an 8-7 (4) victory.
 
The third win for Villanova came from junior Alex Kim (Cary, N.C.) and sophomore Ryan Nguyen (Oakton, Va.) who recorded an 8-2 win over Herman Jentoft and Chanasorn Nakaurai of George Mason. One other doubles team – the tandem of Robinson and senior Matthew Jones (Dallas, Texas) – advanced out of the first round against a team from Morgan State in a walkover due to injury. Each of the Wildcats doubles teams fell in the round of 32, with three of those matches coming against opponents from Penn State.
 
As the later rounds of both the main and consolation singles draws begin to take shape, a number of extra matches were played on Thursday and Friday. Kim, Suarez and Nguyen each posted wins in these matches, including a pair of exciting victories in third-set tiebreakers. Kim outlasted Akira Morgenstern of Georgetown for a 6-1, 0-6, 10-4 victory and Suarez defeated Edik Pribitkin from Loyola (Md.) in a 6-3, 3-6, 10-7 decision. Nguyen topped Oliver Davey from Loyola (Md.) in straight sets by identical scores of 6-2 and 6-2.
 
Villanova continues competition at the ITA Atlantic Regional on Saturday.
