Women’s Soccer Falls to Butler on Senior Day

Villanova, Pa.- Villanova women's soccer played their final home game of the 2021 season on Sunday afternoon and fell to the Butler Bulldogs by a final of 3-0.

Prior to the game the Wildcats honored the teams eight seniors.  This on seniors have won 29 games over their four years in the blue and white and advanced to the BIG EAST Tournament Semi-Finals for the first time in a decade in 2019.  Overall, they have earned 15 BIG EAST All-Academic Team honors and have been named to Athletic Director Honor Roll 23 times.  The eight seniors honored were, Allison Breed, CiCi Fox, Megan McClay, Brice McInroy, Niki Molina, Tori Muller, Chloe O'Neill, and Reagan Smith.

The Bulldogs netted all three of their goals in the first half.  The first came in the 5th minute when Amanda Kowalski and Abigail Isger set up Alli Leonard for a shot from the far side just inside the box.  Her shot that went into the opposite corner of the net to make it 1-0.  Next it was Isger in the 31st minute who would score on a pass from Julia Leonard and the final goal was by Katie Soderstrom in the 37th minute. 

Villanova's best scoring chance of the game came in the 54th minute when Lauren Belcuore was able to get the ball to Maddie Fried was just at the top of the box on the near side.  Their Fried was able to break away from two defenders and send a shot that was just saved by the fingertips of Emma Martin, Butler's keeper. 

The Wildcats will play their final game of the 2021 season on Thursday when they travel to Queens, New York to take on St. John's.  Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 P.M. and can be seen on BEDN on FloSports.
