VILLANOVA, Pa.- In their final home match of the season, the Wildcats were defeated by Creighton in three-straight sets Saturday night.
The six seniors being honored before Saturday night's contest were
Averi Salvador,
Anna Morse, Sanaa Barnes,
Olivia Brown,
Emily Curtis and
Clare Delaplane. Salvador, Barnes, Brown, Curtis and Delaplane were all named starters in the first set.
The Blue Jays took control in the first set with a white-hot attack percentage of .516. Villanova was unable to counter in a 25-11 first set loss. Jaela Zimmerman totaled seven kills for Creighton.
The second set was more competitive between the two squads. There were 10 ties and four lead changes throughout the set. The Wildcats were able to hang with Creighton until about halfway through the set. Tied at 12, Creighton went on a 7-2 run for a 19-14 lead. Despite an
Andrea Campos kill, the Blue Jays powered through with a 6-0 run fueled by three-straight kills from Kiana Schmitt.
Down two sets, the Wildcats continued to battle and forced nine ties and nine lead changes throughout the third set. Trailing 14-12, the Wildcats went on a 3-0 run to reclaim a 15-14 lead. The Blue Jays responded with a 7-1 run to lead 21-16. Villanova peppered in a pair of points but Creighton ultimately took the third set, 25-18.
