McIntyre resets program record for 1000 free in win over La Salle

Jake McIntyre, Patrick Hemingway and Michael Ackert combine for seven wins to top Explorers

VILLANOVA, Pa. – Jake McIntyre (Essex, Vt.) took over the program's 1000 free time with a 9:12.19 swim in Tuesday's 183-103 dual meet victory over La Salle at the Villanova Swim Complex.

The trio of McIntyre, Patrick Hemingway (Harrisburg, Pa.) and Michael Ackert (Rye, N.Y.) won a combined seven events throughout the meet, six coming in individual fashion with the other in a relay.

McIntyre threw down the record-breaking swim that now sits as a pool record. He finished first in two events in the Villanova (2-2) victory.

Hemingway's three wins over La Salle (0-5) were a team-high. He was first in the 50 free (21.49) and 100 free (47.08) and was a part of the winning 200 medley relay (1:33.68) with Charlie Hinkley (New York, N.Y.), Henry Halloran (Brookhaven, Ga.) and Jesse Marsh (Kingston, Jamaica).

On the diving side, Ackert swept the meet winning both the 1-meter (285.00) and 3-meter (282.67) dives. His 1-meter showing marks a new personal best and season-best for the 'Cats.

Villanova swept the top-three in half five of its 12 victories, taking the top spots in the 100 fly, 1000 free, 50 free, 500 free and 3-meter dive.

McIntyre was joined by Hinckley and Richard Nolan (Wilton, Conn.) atop the leaderboard for the 1000 free, with the duo touching the wall second (9:57.26) and third (10:08.31), respectively. In the 500 free, McIntyre was first (4:40.44), yet again, with Hinckley at second (4:44.65) and Aubrey Bowles (Richmond, Va.) third (4:47.38).

Reid Hutcherson (Richmond, Va.) and Halloran combined for a 1-2 finish in the 200 free with 1:43.11 and 1:45.40 swims. Ethan Brown (West Hartford, Conn.) was victorious in the 50 back with a 23.93 time.

In the 50 breast, Andrew Mitchill (Killingworth, Conn.) and Stephen Griner (Greenville, S.C.) turned in a 2-3 Wildcat finish, touching the wall in 27.72 and 27.75, respectively. Later on, Mitchill turned in the top time for the 100 breast with a 58.98 showing.

Villanova swept the 100 Butterfly with Marsh winning the race (51.12). Kevin Geist (Hilton Head Island, S.C.) was not far behind with his second-place finish (51.43) while Nolan Danus (Morris Plains, N.J.) took third (53.00).

Ryan Maher (Phoenixville, Pa.) and Carson Brockette (Dallas, Texas) joined 50-free winner Hemingway in the top-three of that event, touching and second (22.29) and third (22.37), each. Brockette was also victorious in the 100 back (52.46).

Nicholas Jubilee (Painted Post, N.Y.) also turned in a personal best dive in the 1-meter, landing at second with a 266.92 score.

The Wildcats face a nearly two-month layoff from competition before picking up the second half of the season with a trip to Providence on Jan. 15, set for a noon start.
