Villanova Athletics Announces 2021 Hall of Fame Class

The latest group of inductees will be honored on Feb. 4

VILLANOVA, Pa. – The next induction class to the Villanova University Varsity Club Hall of Fame was announced on Friday afternoon with the unveiling of the Hall of Fame Class of 2021. This latest group includes eight former student-athletes and one coach spanning nine different sports along with the annual Jake Nevin Award winner. These honorees will be celebrated at the 45th annual Hall of Fame Dinner in the Finneran Pavilion on Friday, Feb. 4. Registration information for the dinner will be announced at a later date.

The members of the Hall of Fame Class of 2021 are Ryan McGinty (baseball), Mia Brickhouse (softball), Shaun Lyons (football), Joe Canuso (men's lacrosse), Adrian Blincoe (men's track & field/cross country), Malik Allen (men's basketball), Charmaine Walker (women's track & field), Nicole DiMaggio (field hockey) and Harry Perretta (women's basketball). The 2021 Jake Nevin Award Winner is Dr. Helen Lafferty.

Below are career highlights for each of the Varsity Club Hall of Fame inductees.

Ryan McGinty (Baseball, Class of 1995)
Ryan McGinty made his presence known when he stepped to the plate for the Wildcats. He closed his career with the second-best career on base percentage of .493 and a .373 batting average that stands tied for eighth in program history. His 95 walks are 10th in school history, 49 of those coming in the 1995 season alone, the fourth-most in a single season in team history. His senior year culminated with him being one of three Wildcats to earn first team All-BIG EAST status after a 1995 campaign that saw him start in all 56 games he played in, scoring 66 runs with 74 hits and a .500 on base percentage. The Wildcats were 117-73-1 during his Villanova career for a .615 winning percentage and a 1991 NCAA Tournament appearance. His career was bookended by a 1991 BIG EAST championship and 1995 BIG EAST Tournament appearance.

Mia Brickhouse (Softball, Class of 2000)
If there was an open base lying ahead of Mia Brickhouse, she was going to take it. Brickhouse holds the program record for stolen bases and attempts, going 80-88 in her career. She also snagged 28 consecutive bases without getting caught over a span of 59 games between the 1997 and 1999 seasons, a stretch that is the third-longest in program history. The outfielder was just as dominant at the bat as she was on base, sitting second all-time with a .372 career batting average and a program-best 137 career runs.  She also holds the team's single season record with 53 runs scored in 1999. Brickhouse was a two-time All-Region selection in 1999 and 2000 and the recipient of the NFCA Academic All-American Award in 2001. In her time at Villanova, the team went 138-76-3 with one BIG EAST Tournament appearance.

Shaun Lyons (Football, Class of 2000)
Shaun Lyons provided a punch to the Villanova defense throughout his career. He led the Wildcats in tackles for three consecutive seasons between 1997 and 1999, totaling 340 in that span. He is second in program history for career tackles with 410. The linebacker earned First Team All-ECAC status in 1999 and All-Atlantic 10 Conference honors during each of his last three seasons. He landed on the third team in 1997 and 1998 before making the second team in his senior campaign.  Lyons helped the 1997 Wildcats to an undefeated regular season and a number one national ranking for the last six weeks of the season.

Joe Canuso (Men's Lacrosse, Class of 2006)
Joe Canuso holds the title of the CAA's all-time career leader with a 7.47 goals against average and he owns the Villanova program record with 672 saves, placing him second in CAA history in that category. The goalkeeper was the CAA's Co-Rookie of the Year in 2003, before earning CAA Co-Player of the Year accolades in 2004. The four-time All-CAA selection is second in league history with a 6.07 goals against average in 2003. He is fourth in program history with 11.20 saves per game average and is seventh with a .601 save percentage per game.

Adrian Blincoe (Men's Track & Field/Cross Country, Class of 2003)
Adrian Blincoe racked up a plethora of champion performances in his time at Villanova, including three indoor NCAA crowns. He anchored the Wildcats to back-to-back distance medley relay titles in 2002 and 2003 and won the 3000-meter individual title in 2002. He was a seven-time All-American with five coming during the indoor season, one outdoor and one in cross country. The eight-time BIG EAST champion left the 2001 Penn Relays with championships in the distance medley relay and 4xMile relay. He was also a three-time BIG EAST All-Academic Team selection.

Malik Allen (Men's Basketball, Class of 2000)
A three-year starter for Villanova, Malik Allen played for two NCAA Tournament teams in the 1996-97 and 1998-99 seasons and he tallied 1,131 career points from 1996-2000. A third team All-BIG EAST selection in his senior season, Allen is fourth all-time in program history with 191 blocked shots and is 25th with 708 career rebounds. He swatted eight shots against Notre Dame on Jan. 16, 1999, setting a program single-game record by a junior.

Charmaine Walker (Women's Track & Field, Class of 2001)
Over 20 years after closing out her career at Villanova, Charmaine Walker still stands as the program-record holder in the indoor 55-meter (6.9), 55-meter hurdles (7.63), 60-meter hurdles (8.10) and the outdoor 100-meter hurdles (13.01). She was a three-time indoor All-American in the hurdles, while also winning six BIG EAST crowns. Three championships came in the 100-meter hurdles at the outdoor championships in 1998, 2000 and 2001. She won the title in the 60-meter hurdles at the 2000 and 2001 indoor championships and added on the 55-meter hurdles at the 1998 indoor championships.

Nicole DiMaggio (Field Hockey, Class of 2001)
Nicole DiMaggio left Villanova as a three-time All-BIG EAST Selection, being named to the second team list in 1997, 1999 and 2000, while also gaining All-Rookie status from the league in 1997. She still holds down the second spot on the program's career ledger with 122 points and 56 goals. The forward was tabbed an NFGCA Mid-Atlantic All-Region pick in 1998 and 1999.  She was a part of the 1998 squad that made a run as a BIG EAST Tournament finalist.

Harry Perretta (Women's Basketball Head Coach, 1978-2020)
At the helm of the women's basketball program for 42 years, Harry Perretta coached the Wildcats to the tune of a 783-489 overall record to become the all-time winningest coach in the history of Villanova basketball for both men and women. He led his teams to 11 NCAA Tournament appearances, the 1982 AIAW Final Four, five BIG EAST championships, 18 Big 5 titles and 20, 20-win seasons. His 783 wins are the 19th-most by a coach in NCAA women's basketball history. He is one of four coaches, men or women, to register 300 BIG EAST victories. In his time, he coached 79 All-BIG EAST selections, 19 of those being first-team honorees.

Helen Lafferty (2021 Jake Nevin Award Recipient)
A supporter of Villanova in both the classroom and administration, Dr. Helen Lafferty has been a part of the University for over 40 years. She became the University's first College Professor of the Liberal Arts and Sciences in 2008. In her tenure, Dr. Lafferty has been a longtime professor in the Department of Education & Counseling, currently teaching graduate students in the higher education concentration in the graduate program of the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences.  She has also served as the Academic Counselor in the Counseling Center, College Professor of Education, Vice President for Academic Affairs and the University Vice President for 16 years. A native of Youngstown, Ohio, Dr. Lafferty was also the second-ever recipient of the Earl D. Bader Award for Distinguished Faculty Contributions to the Villanova Center for Liberal Education.
