Villanova will close out the 2020-21 regular season on Saturday night against the visiting Seton Hall Pirates. The Wildcats enter play 14-4 overall and 9-4 in BIG EAST play, while Seton Hall is 12-6 overall and 10-5 in league action. The game tips-off at 8 p.m., and it can be seen live on FS1.
This will be the second meeting of the year between the Wildcats and Pirates. In the first match-up in South Orange, N.J., on Jan. 6, the Wildcats earned a 78-71 victory. In the win, sophomore forward
Maddy Siegrist led the way with 23 points, nine rebounds, three assists and two steals, while senior forward
Bridget Herlihy registered a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Senior forward
Sarah Mortensen finished with 14 points and six caroms and freshman
Taliyah Medina was the fourth Wildcat in double figures with a career-high 11 points. Seton Hall was paced by Lauren Park-Lane who had a game-high 27 points and Desiree Elmore who netted 15 points.
Saturday night's game will be the 69th all-time meeting between the teams. Villanova currently leads the all-time series by a 45-23 margin and have won eight of the last nine and 14 of the last 19 versus Seton Hall.
In addition to being named BIG EAST and Big 5 Player of the Week, Siegrist was also named the Ann Meyers Drysdale Co-National Player of the Week by the USBWA. She shares the honor with Kierstan Bell from Florida Gulf Coast.
Siegrist enters the season finale on Saturday night versus Seton Hall leading the BIG EAST in both scoring at 23.1 points per game and rebounding at 10.3 rebounds per contest. If she maintains the top spot in both categories, she will become just the third player in league history to lead the conference in scoring and rebounding. The other two players to accomplish the statistical double were Rebekkah Brunson (Georgetown in 2003-04) and Angel McCoughtry who did it three times playing for then Big East member Louisville (2006-07, 2007-08 and 2008-09).
After 18 contests in 2020-21, Villanova has been credited with an assist on 364 of their 491 made field goals for 74.1 percent. Senior
Raven James leads in the assist category with 66, followed
Brianna Herlihy with 61.
