VILLANOVA, Pa. –  A goal in the 26th minute helped propel Villanova to a 1-0 victory over Saint Joseph's Sunday afternoon in the rain at the Higgins Soccer Complex.
           Sam Rosette scored the game's decisive goal off a feed from Makyla Stadler at 25:45 to put the Wildcats into the lead.
           Stout defense ensured that the lead would hold. Villanova limited the Hawks (1-3 overall) to eight shots over 90 minutes, with three on net. Goalkeeper Megan McClay made two saves and her defense made another team save in posting the clean sheet, its first of the season.
           Bri Austin and Emma Weaver also had shots on goal for Villanova, which posted its first victory of the 2021 spring campaign (1-3 overall).
           Villanova will open the BIG EAST portion of its 2021 spring season on Thursday when it travels north to meet the St. John's Red Storm in Queens. Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m.
