NEWARK, DEL. – The Villanova Wildcat baseball team ran its win streak to four in a row on Sunday afternoon with an 11-10 victory over the Delaware Blue Hens. With the win, Villanova improves to 4-2 on the season, while Delaware falls to 2-2.
Senior right hander
Jimmy Kingsbury (Phoenixville, Pa.) started for the Wildcats and went four and a third innings allowing six runs (five earned) on three hits, while striking out four and walking seven.
Mike Schwartz (Merrick, N.Y.) came on in relief to pitch two innings to earn the win. In his two innings of work, Schwartz allowed two runs on three hits and struck out three. Lefty
Danny Wilkinson (Scotch Plains, N.Y.) earned his third save of the year by getting the last four outs of the game. With two on and two out in the bottom of the eighth, Wilkinson came on to get a strikeout to end the Blue Hen rally. In the ninth, Wilkinson got two quick outs and then allowed a two-out walk, before closing the door with a strikeout of Jordan Hutchins.
Sophomore
A.J. Hansen (Collegeville, Pa.) led the Villanova offensive attack by going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases.
Jack O'Reilly (Villanova, Pa.) and
Pat O'Neill (Eagleville, Pa.) had two hits each with O'Reilly recording a two-run double. Villanova had two home runs on the day, including a solo shot by
Lucas Latrenta (Greenwich, Conn.) in the second inning and a
Jeff Manto (Bristol, Pa.) two-run pinch hit homer in the fifth.
Joey Loynd and Mitchell Balint had two hits each for Delaware. Loynd, Balint and Jack Goan also added doubles for the Blue Hens.
Villanova finished with 11 runs on 11 hits and three errors, while Delaware had 10 runs on nine hits and no errors.
The Wildcats return to action on Friday, March 19, when Villanova is scheduled to play host to Northeastern. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
