Villanova and Delaware will meet on Monday night in the WNIT quarterfinal round in Charlotte, N.C, at the Bojangles Coliseum. The Wildcats enter play with a 17-6 overall record, while the Blue Hens are 23-4 on the season. The winner will advance to the WNIT Final Four in Memphis on Friday night. Despite the two campuses being just 40 miles apart, Villanova and Delaware have met just eight times in women's basketball with the last match-up coming in December of 2015. The Blue Hens hold a slim 5-3 advantage in the all-time series.
The Wildcats are making its third all-time appearance in the WNIT quarterfinal round on Monday night. The Wildcats are 1-1 in the previous two quarterfinal games, losing at West Virginia in 2015 (75-70 OT) and winning at Indiana in 2017 (69-57).
In the first two games in the WNIT, sophomore forward
Maddy Siegrist has scored 58 points (32 vs. UMass; 26 vs. Florida) on 21-of-38 shooting (.552), including a 7-of-10 from three-point range (.700). She has also tallied 17 rebounds, six assists and five steals in the two games.
Siegrist went over the 500 rebound mark for her career in Saturday's win over Florida, becoming just the third player in school history to record 500 rebounds in two seasons. Shelly Pennefather (1983-87) had 570 caroms in her first two years and Lisa Angelotti (1984-88) tallied 512 in her first two seasons. Siegrist has 505 rebounds entering play on Monday versus Delaware.
In the history of the program, the Wildcats are 34-27 in postseason play. This record includes the NCAA Tournament (8-11), EAIAW Tournament (6-4), WNIT (18-11) and the AIAW Tournament (3-1).
Villanova is led in scoring by Siegrist who is averaging a team-high 23.2 points per game and a team-best 9.9 rebounds per contest. Two other Wildcats are averaging double figures, including
