VILLANOVA SUFFERS SHUTOUT LOSS AT CREIGHTON

Jimmy Kingsbury strikes out 11 in the loss

OMAHA, NEB. – The Villanova Wildcats traveled to Omaha, Neb., on Saturday afternoon, where they lost the second game of the three game series to the Creighton Bluejays by a score of 10-0. With the loss, Villanova falls to 12-4 overall and 0-2 in BIG EAST play, while Creighton improves to 8-7 overall and 2-0 in league action.
 
Creighton scored four runs in the bottom of the third inning to open-up a 5-0 lead. Ryan Mantle and Alan Roden had the two big hits of the inning for the Bluejays, with Mantle hitting a two-run home run to left and Roden tallying a two-run double.
 
The Bluejays used another four-run inning in the seventh to put the game away. After the first two Creighton hitters were retired to start the inning, Andrew Meggs doubled and Sterling Hayes was hit by a pitch. With two on and two out, Roden homered to right center to increase the Creighton advantage to 8-0. Mantle then made it a 9-0 game when he hit his second home run of the game.
 
Senior Jimmy Kingsbury (Phoenixville, Pa.) started on the mound for the Wildcats and went six innings, allowing five runs on eight hits, while striking out 11 and walking none.
 
Villanova managed just three hits in the loss with Jack O'Reilly (Villanova, Pa.), Ryan Toohers (Florham Park, N.J.) and Pat O'Neill (Eagleville, Pa.) getting a hit apiece. O'Neill's hit came on a double in the eighth. 
 
Creighton pounded out 11 hits in the game with Roden leading the way with three hits and seven RBI. Jonah Smith earned the win for Creighton, pitching eight innings and allowing three hits and striking out eight.
 
The two teams will conclude the three-game series on Sunday afternoon. First pitch is set for 1 p.m., eastern time.
