Despite a Strong Opening Half Villanova Falls to No. 5 Denver 17-10

Denver, Colo.- The Villanova Wildcats fell to the No. 5 Denver Pioneers 17-10 on Saturday afternoon on the road.  The Wildcats trialed by just one at halftime, but Denver used a strong third quarter run to pull ahead.

Stevie Jones got Villanova on the board first with a long goal at 10:44. Denver would score the two goals before the of the quarter to take a 2-1 lead.  Patrick Daly and Matt Campbell had strong second quarters, both scored two goals.  Daly had the first two tying the game at 2 and then 3 with just over nine minutes to play.  Keegan Khan dished it to Campbell to tie the game at 4 and the Campbell would net an unassisted goal just over a minute before halftime to bring Villanova within one.  Denver led 6-5 heading into the locker room.

The Pioneer's offense clicked in the third quarter, they score the opening two goals but Daly completed his hat trick would bring it within two.  Jackson Morrill netted his scored straight goal for Denver but Daly answered netting a EMO goal on a pass from Colin Crowley.  Denver would close out the final eight minutes going on a 7-1 run to pull ahead 16-8.  Eric Overbay netted the Villanova EMO goal at 4:56 on a dish from Khan. 

Denver would score the opening goal of the fourth, which was their sixth goal in a row, but Corey McManus would end it with a goal at 9:08 on a pass from Khan.  Gavin Burke would score his first career goal at 5:23 on a pass from Daly to make the final 17-10.

Will Vitton played 41 minutes in goal and finished with six saves while Brendan Haggerty played the final 19 and had two.  Brody LaPorte finished with a pair of caused turnovers and ground balls.

Villanova will travel to Queens, New York to take on the St. John's Red Storm on Saturday, April 17th.  Faceoff is scheduled for 1:00 P.M.
